4 Ways to Save Money During the Holidays

Updated: Jun 12, 2024

The holidays can be an overwhelming time for many. With all the gatherings, presents, shopping, cooking and wrapping up year-end things it’s very easy to feel like you’re steps behind! I feel very fortunate to live at a time when convenience is key and online shopping is easier than ever, helping me tackle that holiday checklist in the most efficient way possible. Now what most people don't know is that there are so many different programs online that help you save money while shopping online.

Here are my favorite online shopping hacks to help me save money at places I plan on shopping anyway:

  1. Rakuten - You can get cash back at up to 3500 stores! The great thing about Rakuten is that it doesn’t require you to download the browser extension to use it, you’ll just need to make sure you start your shopping session directly from their website. The added bonus is that if you download their app, they have lots of in-store cash back options as well, giving you savings both online and offline.

  2. Paypal Honey - Add Honey to your browser and it’ll automatically scour the internet for coupons on sites you are already shopping on; no extra step of leaving checkout pages to look for coupons yourself! Because Honey is a Paypal company, getting paid is super easy.

  3. Capital One Shopping - this one is fairly new to the online cash back scene but they have some of the best cash back percentages I’ve seen online, not to mention some stores that I have not seen at other places (such as Disney + and Viator). The only caveat is that, unlike Rakuten and Honey, you redeem your percentage savings in e-gift cards! There are dozens of retailers to redeem from you would normally shop from anyway.

  4. Lastly, my other favorite is Ibotta. Not only do you save money while shopping for presents, but Ibotta allows you to earn cashback on everyday purchases like gift cards and groceries! Make sure you sign up and give yourself a few minutes to read up on how to maximize your savings with tips and tricks from the Ibotta team.
